Rep. Vargas Cosponsors the Bipartisan Filipino Veterans Fairness Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 29, 2023) — Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-52), serving on the House Financial Services committee, issued the following statement in support of the Bipartisan Filipino Veterans Fairness Act:
"Last month, I was a proud cosponsor on the bipartisan Filipino Veterans Fairness Act. This critical piece of legislation will restore benefits to Filipino veterans who fought under U.S. command in World War II," said Rep Vargas. “Alternative military documentation will be used to determine eligibility due to official service records that were destroyed in a 1973 fire at the National Personnel Records Center. This will allow a need-based death pension to be offered to survivors of Filipino WWII veterans, to recognize their honorable and outstanding service to our country.”

Vargas represents California’s 52nd Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, including the cities of San Diego, National City, Chula Vista, and Imperial Beach. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his sixth term in Congress. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee.
